1. Where is the Residential Treatment Program located?

2. Do I need a referral?

We require completion of an Assessment Package including a medical form. Please contact your local Assessment & Referral agency.

3. What type of addiction does the House of Sophrosyne treat?

The House of Sophrosyne treats alcohol and drug addictions and trauma.

4. Can you accommodate special diets?

We can accommodate special diets, based on a physician’s recommendation. A note from a physician is required.

5. Is there a dress code?

We do have a dress code as follows:

  • Clothing should be casual and comfortable.
  • Footwear is required when outside of the bedroom.
  • Clothing with slogans promoting alcohol or drugs is not permitted.
  • Clothing with slogans or pictures that is demeaning or prejudicial to any group; or that are distracting due to inappropriate content are not permitted.
  • Revealing clothing is not permitted; all clothing should be modest in that it does not draw undue attention to client sexuality.
  • Staff reserves the right to ask clients to change should any clothing be -deemed inappropriate.
  • No beach flip flops or high heeled shoes are allowed in program due to health and safety reasons.
6. Are there medication restrictions?

We do have medication restrictions. Specific information will be provided during the intake process.

7. What does a client do in the program?

Clients attend group sessions, one on one session, have informational sessions on trauma, relapse prevention and nurturing. Other group activities include yoga, dance, art therapy, acupuncture, skin care, nutrition and personal fitness training.
Since over 90% of women with addictions have experienced some form of trauma (i.e. sexual, physical, emotional or mental abuse), we are the only women’s centre that offers an integrated trauma element.

8. How long is the program?

The program is 5 weeks.

9. When can I come into the program?

Wait times may vary, please contact our Intake Department for the next Intake Date 519-252-2711 ext. 115. There is no wait for pregnant women or new Moms. We accept women at any stage in their pregnancy.

10. What are the intake requirements?

Intake requirements are as follows:

  • Completion of an Assessment Package including a medical form
  • We accept women who are stabilized on Drug Replacement Therapy (methadone and suboxone)
  • Withdrawal from substances 3-5 days prior to admission.
  • Drug testing will occur at intake and randomly throughout the treatment program
11. How much does it cost?

Option 1: Ontario Health/Publicly Funded Beds are available to women 16+ with a valid Ontario Health Card. There is an additional fee of $110 to cover activities. This fee is to be paid on Intake day.

Option 2: EAP/Privately Funded beds: Due to the demand of our specialized services, the House of Sophrosyne has developed a Private Pay Option. A limited number of beds are available to those women who have extended health care benefits, EAP assistance or have the means to pay privately. This option allows women more immediate access to program. Specific information will be provided during the intake process.
