Gladys Chapman is one of the most influential and impactful women involved with the House of Sophrosyne. Gladys entered a life of sobriety June 10, 1977, and began volunteering at the House in 1978; a mere six months after our doors opened. Gladys attended as many House of Sophrosyne fundraisers and functions as possible, ran groups at the House as well as recovery meetings in addition to all of the other volunteering that she did in the community. Not only was she our top ticket seller, but our top ticket purchaser. Despite how much she continued to give back, she was insistent that her contributions helped her more than she helped others. Her everyday attitude of generosity is the true definition of giving back. Gladys is the epitome of a role model to everyone she has met along her journey, and these contributions have led to recognition by way of this Award.
This award will recognize a House of Sophrosyne alumna who has successfully completed the residential treatment at the House of Sophrosyne. This award is intended to recognize someone who has demonstrated a commitment to her recovery and ongoing sobriety.
